Online Shopping Guide

Welcome to our bespoke leather crafting experience! 

  • Browse our website and choose your desired product and preferred color.
  • Select from a range of font and figure engraving options to customize your item. Your selections will be previewed on the main photo. Please be patient if you have a slow internet connection. Keep in mind that laser engraving appears clearer on lighter-colored leather and more subtle on darker shades. 
  • Once satisfied with your artwork, click “ADD TO CART” at the bottom of the page.  Continue shopping if you wish to add more items to your basket, following the same procedure.
  • When you've finished shopping, proceed to the Checkout page located on the top right-hand side of the screen. Click “CHECKOUT” and follow the prompts to complete your order.
  • After placing your order, you'll receive an Order Confirmation email from SumArt, detailing your order number, date & time, selected items, color, and artwork. If you don't see these emails in your inbox, please check your Spam or Junk folder and add us as a contact to ensure you receive updates on your order.

IMPORTANT: To adhere to our tight production schedule and ensure prompt delivery, production of your order may begin within hours of placement. Please note that changes or alterations to designs are not possible once production has started.

Production & Delivery Times

Once your order is confirmed and payment is received, please allow 5-10 working days for us to create your items. Thereafter, delivery usually takes 3-5 working days, depending on your location.

For bulk orders, please email us to inquire about delivery times, as they may vary based on the order size and current workload.

If you need your order by a specific date, please let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Bulk Orders / Corporate Gifting / Wedding Favours

For bulk orders, such as corporate gifts or wedding favours requiring extra personalisation, please visit our Co-Branding Page. We offer attractive discounts on bulk purchases.

Email us your requirements, including contact details, items of interest, quantity, preferred colour, delivery preferences, timeline, and the logo or image you want engraved.

Send a high-quality logo/image, preferably in black and white and in vector format (JPEG, DXF, or CRD). Note that we do not engrave or create artwork from photos.

You can provide your own image/logo or make use our resources.

While our website displays a limited selection of images and fonts, we have a vast array of fonts on our system and access to nearly unlimited images. Design fees may apply.

Once we receive your email, we'll review your needs and suggest engraving options that suit your vision. We'll create artwork with various engraving options for your feedback and provide a quote. After you approve the design and quote, we'll start the manufacturing process.

Payment Options

Payfast:
We use Payfast, South Africa’s leading payment gateway solution, ensuring your details are safe and only used to complete the order.

Ozow:
Ozow enables you to make EFT payments that clear immediately. ABSA, Capitec, FNB, Nedbank, Standard Bank, and Investec are supported.

EFT:
If you are paying via Direct Bank Transfer (EFT), please send your proof of payment to info@sumart.studio with your order number so we can process your order.

Engraving & Hand Stitching

We use laser engraving to create a precise, permanent imprint on leather. This process does not use ink but burns the design into the leather. The laser only distinguishes between black and white "images," making them the preferred choice.

Laser engraving is clearer on lighter leather and more subtle on darker shades.

Please be aware that engraving is conducted during the cutting process, and once a product is assembled, no further engraving can be applied. Engraving services are exclusively provided for SumArt items and are not available for any products outside of our range.

SumArt products are carefully hand-stitched using the traditional saddle stitch method, ensuring both beauty and durability. This technique reduces the risk of unraveling, giving our products a longer lifespan and greater value.

As leather is natural and our products handmade, each item is unique, with slight variations in color and texture, adding charm to our high-quality pieces. We're sure you'll treasure your SumArt piece as much as we do crafting it.

Leather

Leather is a natural material that varies from batch to batch, ensuring each product is unique. There may be slight variations in size, and over time, leather will darken and soften with use and exposure. Natural markings such as scars and blemishes are inherent to full-grain leather and are not defects but unique features. Imperfections like insect bites, scratches, and colour variations are typical in genuine leather products. These characteristics, including healed scars and wrinkles, highlight the authenticity and durability of natural leather, making each piece one of a kind.

Our Leather

Our leather goods, showcased on our website, are crafted from full-grain, aniline leather. All our leather is sourced locally from reputable tanneries in South Africa.

  • Full-Grain Leather: This premium-grade leather retains its natural grain and is not sanded, buffed, or snuffed to remove imperfections. It is known for its beauty, durability and longevity. It comes from the top layer of the hide, making it the strongest type of leather available.
  • Aniline Leather: Dyed with soluble dyes, aniline leather preserves its natural grain surface, maintaining its authentic appearance.
  • Chrome-Tanned Leather: Chrome tanning is the most popular method in the global leather industry. This process treats animal hide to make it more supple, resilient, and suitable for various products.

We exclusively use bovine leather (cowhide) and avoid exotic leathers such as crocodile, ostrich, and shark skin. Additionally, we do not use artificial, fake, or low-grade leather materials like faux leather, PU leather, pleather, or synthetic leather.

Clean & Care
  • Avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading. Wipe liquid spills immediately with a damp cloth to prevent staining. Leather is not waterproof, so be cautious with water exposure.
  • To maintain leather’s appearance, regularly wipe it down with a dry cloth and use a soft, damp cloth for deeper cleaning. Apply leather cream sparingly to prevent drying out.
  • Beeswax can offer some waterproofing but may change the colour. Test it on a small area first. Spray protectant is less effective but less noticeable.

Service Area, Shipping & Returns

Collection / Delivery

Courier:

  • Delivery Timeframe: Standard delivery takes 3 to 5 working days. You will receive an email with shipping and tracking details. Ensure the delivery address is accessible between 8:00 and 17:00 on weekdays, as our couriers operate during these hours.
  • Service Area: We offer nationwide delivery across South Africa. Deliveries to major cities like Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria, and Durban usually take 2 days once shipped, while outlying areas may take an extra day or two. We cannot deliver to P.O. Boxes.
  • Tracking: After shipping, you will receive tracking details via email. Use the tracking number to monitor your order's progress. Please note that we cannot guarantee a specific delivery day or time as this is determined by the courier company.

Collection:

  • You can collect your goods directly from our warehouse in George during business hours (Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm). Please call in advance to schedule an appointment.

Important Notes:

  • All listed prices do not include shipping costs. To expedite delivery, provide your full name, street address, suburb, city/town, postal code, contact number, and email address when prompted.
  • Deliveries or collections will only be arranged once full payment has been made and cleared by our bank. It may take up to 3 business days for EFT funds to be confirmed.

Returns / Refunds

In the unlikely event that you’re not satisfied with your purchase, kindly contact us within 14 days to resolve the matter. We will gladly repair/replace/refund items when the fault lies with us.

After the initial 14-day period from the date of shipment, we cannot accept returns or issue refunds. To qualify for a return or refund, the item must be unused and in its original condition.

Please Note:
  • No returns or refunds will be provided for damaged or used items.
  • Items damaged due to accidents, alterations, repairs by third parties, transfer of leather dye, or misuse are not eligible for returns or refunds.
  • Customised or personalised items are not eligible for returns or refunds.
  • Sale items are final sale and not eligible for returns or refunds.
Return Process:

To qualify for a return, email us at info@sumart.studio with your name, address, order number, photos of the product, and the reason for the return.

Kindly Note: We reserve the right to refuse any goods returned outside the stated time limit.
